The SOM still needs facilitators for POPS and other small group sessions this fall. Please consider signing up at the link below! We want to share that POPS facilitators should have a general working knowledge of the concepts taught in the POPS sessions-it does not have to be their specific specialty, discipline, or area of practice for clinicians or foundational scientists. While facilitators need a comfortable level of content knowledge, their main focus will be on keeping the sessions running, asking probing questions to encourage students to think critically, and evaluation of student engagement. Facilitators guides, with content overview will be provided.

Subject: SOM Seeks Faculty Facilitators for the Preclinical Curriculum

The School of Medicine seeks dynamic and engaging faculty facilitators for problem-based learning and small group sessions during the fall semester for M1 courses. Facilitators are asked to arrive prepared and complete evaluations of students after. Participation in the undergraduate medical education program is a useful item to have when it comes time for promotion!

For all POPS (patient-oriented problem solving) sessions, students will take a pretest and work through a series of 5 cases. Each student is provided with the correct answers for 1 case and 2 pretest questions and is responsible for teaching the material to their peers. Facilitators are there only to answer questions, clarify points of confusion, and add a layer of foundational science and/or clinical context to the learning opportunity.

Faculty interested in participating can learn more and sign up by following this link<https://ummc.sharepoint.com/:x:/s/CurriculumIntegration/EexcehwQgDVJqcGn2fkBbjoBJKWrh9o2_UaOG3QFZOU_kw?e=2PU0L7>. This file includes the schedule & learning objectives or a brief description of the session. Each session lasts between 1-2 hours and faculty may sign up for just one hour or multiple hours based on their availability.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours,
David
