Curriculum Committee & Subcommittees
Commitment: This Curriculum Committee meets monthly on the fourth Thursday at noon, except in November & December when it meets on third Thursdays. It’s subcommittees meet at least every other month, with meeting dates and times set by their chairs in consultation with their members.

Curriculum Committee
The School of Medicine Curriculum Committee shall have the authority to design, integrate, implement, manage, evaluate, and enhance all aspects of the educational program in the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, including the creation of policies related to student academic performance and progression, as well as faculty expectations. The Curriculum Committee shall execute much of its work through the eight standing subcommittees and ad hoc committees or task forces that it decides shall be needed.

Clinical Sciences Subcommittee
The charge is to process changes from the evaluation of the clinical curriculum, coordinate appropriate changes for the curriculum based on student outcome data and feedback, and utilize appropriate evaluation tools for the clinical curriculum. This subcommittee serves as a forum for the exchange of information, ideas, innovations and best practices in clinical medical education. It will identify and recommend policies and procedures for uniform implementation across courses and assist in the implementation process.

Curriculum Development & Innovation
The charge is to review the curriculum map to identify trends and necessary changes, to provide oversight in the development of new courses, and to manage revisions in the format of existing courses and significant changes in curriculum design. This body of work will ensure alignment with the educational needs and educational program objectives of the School of Medicine as well as the educational standards set by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and incorporation of appropriate means of assessment to validate improvement in student competencies.  To that end, the subcommittee will provide guidance in the identification of appropriate resources during the development of new or modification of existing educational venues.

Evaluation & Assessment
The charge is to conduct, coordinate, and analyze reviews of all components, specifically, courses and clerkships and each of the years, of the SOM curriculum on a regular basis to ensure that the stated curriculum functions as designed and has appropriate assessment tools for all components. This subcommittee provides feedback of the reviews to the Curriculum Committee.

Foundational Sciences
The charge is to process changes from the evaluation of the preclinical curriculum, coordinate appropriate changes for the curriculum based on student outcome data and feedback, and utilize appropriate evaluation tools for the preclinical curriculum. This subcommittee serves as a forum for the exchange of information, ideas, innovations and best practices in pre-clinical medical education. It will identify and recommend policies and procedures for uniform implementation across courses and assist in the implementation process.​

Professional Identity Formation
The charge is to develop, implement, and evaluate elements within the curriculum in the SOM related to the professional development of students, coordinate appropriate changes for the curriculum based on student outcome data, and provide appropriate assessment tools for this portion of the curriculum.

Program Evaluation
The charge is to engage in ongoing planning and evaluation of the medical education curriculum as a whole and to implement a continuous quality improvement process for the educational curriculum. The group will be responsible for presenting this data in a coherent fashion to the Curriculum Committee. The activity of the subcommittee will ensure that there is effective monitoring of the medical education curriculum by faculty and administration.

Society & Medicine
The charge is to develop, implement, and evaluate a longitudinal curriculum for the societal topics that impact the health of individuals, the delivery of health care, and the access to health care of individuals and populations. The topics will be integrated both vertically and horizontally in the curriculum through participation by faculty, students, and administration. This subcommittee will lead in the development of a logically sequenced, coordinated component of coursework and fieldwork, using appropriate methods of teaching and evaluation to meet the educational program objectives of the School of Medicine.

Systems-Based Practice
The charge is to develop, implement, oversee, and evaluate a longitudinal curriculum for the business practices of medicine that impact the health of individuals, the delivery of health care, and the access to health care of individuals and populations. The topics will be integrated both vertically and horizontally in the curriculum through participation by faculty, students, administration, and external partners. There will be a logically sequenced, coordinated program of coursework and fieldwork, using appropriate methods of teaching and evaluation to meet the educational program objectives of the School of Medicine.

Promotions Committee & Subcommittees
Commitment: Each component of the Promotions Committee and Subcommittees meets twice in the spring semester, usually in May & June. Additional meetings are scheduled on an as needed basis.

Executive Committee
The School of Medicine Medical Student Promotions Executive Committee reviews student performance and issues recommendations to the Dean & Executive Faculty on issues related to student promotion, progression, retention, remediation, & dismissal from the program.

Foundational Sciences Subcommittee
This subcommittee completes targeted reviews of M1 and M2 students with academic difficulties and issues recommendations to the Executive Committee on student promotion, progression, retention, remediation, & dismissal from the program.

Clinical Sciences Subcommittee
This subcommittee completes targeted reviews of M3 and M4 students with academic difficulties and issues recommendations to the Executive Committee on student promotion, progression, retention, remediation, & dismissal from the program.
