Did you know that you can purchase your own set of regalia through the UMMC bookstore? If you attend commencement regularly, it even pays for itself. Please note this email is not about renting regalia for this year. That will come later.

 

You have the option to purchase new or previously rented gowns, hoods, and tams or mortarboards by contacting Alyssa Feller ([log in to unmask]) in the UMMC Bookstore Items can be purchased individually or all together.

• Gowns:
• Doctoral gowns are available with either black or colored velvet specific to your degree.  A new gown with black velvet is $335, and $345 for colored velvet.  If you’d prefer to purchase used rental stock (a previously rented and professionally cleaned piece), a black velvet gown is $265, and colored velvet is $290.  New gowns will have a bell sleeve and be slightly fuller than rental gowns.
• If you’re ordering a new gown, your customization options are:
• Pocket slits ($8 each) or pockets ($15 each) 
• Piping around the velvet stripes (pricing acquired from Alyssa)
• Three-letter initial gold embroidery inside the collar (no cost)
• Hoods:
• New doctorate level hoods are $145, and $115 for previously rented. 
• Tams/Mortarboards:
• New this year, Academic Affairs has chosen tams for doctorate-level students and faculty. Tams can be purchased for $30. 

 

The deadline for the purchase of a new gown for this year’s graduation is February 28, 2023.  The purchase of used gowns and hoods may be accommodated beyond that date.
