The SOM is developing a new department which will have a focus on education. One of the first steps in the process is the identification of a dynamic leader for the department.
Here are the expectations for this leader and the position:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide and communicate a strategic plan to achieve the mission of the department;
- Promote interdepartmental communication and collaboration;
- Work with the chairs of other departments along with school and institutional leadership to ensure the availability and support of faculty teaching in the educational
program;
- Work closely with faculty to ensure that the resources required for the delivery of the educational program are available;
- Manage and appropriately leverage the resources of the department;
- Support and guide staff members in professional development and progression;
- Effectively manage conflict;
- Create an environment that fosters research and scholarly activity;
- Represent the education mission for the SOM;
- Provide oversight for auxiliary services; and
- Oversee continuous improvement in processes involved in management of the department and its divisions
Other Duties
- Travel to national and regional medical education conferences
- Work collaboratively with others to meet the needs of faculty, residents, staff and students
- Participate in appropriate SOM and institutional meetings
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- Degree requirements include MD or PhD
- Faculty appointment in the SOM
- A record of leadership and achievement in medical education
- Superb written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational and managerial skills
The initial time commitment is 0.75 FTE.
