The SOM is developing a new department which will have a focus on education. One of the first steps in the process is the identification of a dynamic leader for the department.

 

Here are the expectations for this leader and the position:

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide and communicate a strategic plan to achieve the mission of the department;
  2. Promote interdepartmental communication and collaboration;
  3. Work with the chairs of other departments along with school and institutional leadership to ensure the availability and support of faculty teaching in the educational program;
  4. Work closely with faculty to ensure that the resources required for the delivery of the educational program are available;
  5. Manage and appropriately leverage the resources of the department;
  6. Support and guide staff members in professional development and progression;
  7. Effectively manage conflict;
  8. Create an environment that fosters research and scholarly activity;
  9. Represent the education mission for the SOM;
  10. Provide oversight for auxiliary services; and
  11. Oversee continuous improvement in processes involved in management of the department and its divisions

 

Other Duties

  1. Travel to national and regional medical education conferences
  2. Work collaboratively with others to meet the needs of faculty, residents, staff and students
  3. Participate in appropriate SOM and institutional meetings
  4. Perform other duties as assigned

 

Education and Experience

  1. Degree requirements include MD or PhD
  2. Faculty appointment in the SOM
  3. A record of leadership and achievement in medical education
  4. Superb written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  5. Exceptional interpersonal skills
  6. Excellent organizational and managerial skills

 

The initial time commitment is 0.75 FTE.
